This GPT series copper wire has a yellow PVC outer cover for insulation and is suitable to be used in automotive wiring applications. The PVC (polyvinyl chloride) insulation has an operating temperature range of -40 to +105 degrees C. This stranded copper wire is annealed for improved ductility and meets the SAE J1128 standards for electrical wiring in surface vehicles. This copper wire is suitable to be used at as much as 60VDC as primary wiring for cars, boats, trucks, buses, tractors, and trailers.
Electrical wire carries an electric current or grounds an electrical device. The amount of current a wire can carry is proportional to its size (gauge), and the wire is usually sheathed with coatings and coverings to insulate and offer protection to it from moisture, chemicals, heat, and abrasion. Copper is the main material for electrical wire, but alloys are every now and then used to increase its strength or its resistance to chemicals and the environment. Wire will also be composed of a single strand or of many smaller strands, depending on its use, and is generally annealed to strengthen its ductility. Electrical wire is regularly used in industrial, electronic, and automotive applications.
